How to Escape the Dungeon

Video Walkthrough

You’ll begin the demo in a dimly lit dungeon cell. A locked gate stands before you, and the only other things in the room are a low bench with some rotten food, a barrel, and a toilet.

Turn to face opposite the locked cell door, and you can spot a missing brick in the wall with a crumpled up note left behind. Pick up the Scrap of Paper and open up your inventory (triangle) to examine and read the two pages of notes. You’ll get a rough idea of an escape plan, but there’s still a lot to figure out.

With the cell door locked, crouch down instead, and look under the bench to find a small passage you can crawl under into the adjoining cell. It’s as bare as the previous cell, but thankfully, the door is unlocked.

Leaving the cell behind, you’ll find yourself in a long dark corridor lined with more cells, and a bunch of debris to your left. If you want, you can check the cell opposite the one you escaped to find it lined with shelves, a creepy looking portrait, and a note about medicine for livestock. There sure don’t seem to be many animals down here…

Shortly down the hall, you can spot several hanging things in sacks. The left cell offers nothing of use, and the one on the right is locked with chains – preventing entry.

Keep moving forward, and note the next cell on the right has a dead woman next to a table full of torture devices. In the corner, scrawled in blood, are the words “help me brother”. On the left, what’s left of a man hangs in another padlocked cell.

When you reach the end of the hall, you’ll find a sealed wooden door with a post next to it that’s locked and requires some sort of key. Inspect it, and you’ll hear some commotion come from back down the hall.

Advance cautiously back down the dim corridor, and look into the room with the dead woman to find her slumped over with something sticking out of her back. Inspect the body and retrieve the Bolt Cutters, an item that can be used to open certain locked cells.

For a grisly sight, you can open up the opposite cell using the Bolt Cutters to inspect the hanged man, otherwise, head down the hall to find the only other locked door with a chain you can open using those Bolt Cutters (watch for falling objects!).

This room houses many more torture devices – plus a bucket full of blood. The scrap of paper back in your cell mentioned finding a key soaked in blood, so stick your hand in to reveal a Lockpick – the tool you need to escape this place.

Another commotion will sound as you leave the cell – which means it’s time to get out of here. Head back down the corridor (did the dead woman’s body just move again?) and dodge the pounding on the walls on the left until you reach the box you can now unlock to find a lever, and open the door to the next room.

The room is a bit creepy, but thankfully well lit. Move on through and down the narrow corridor, past a wine cellar full of curiously leaking (and bumping) barrels into a larger room.

The note you found mentions that the door won’t help you reach freedom, but a light source will. Knowing this, circle around the table in this room (checking out the food and record player if you want) to the far side of the circular room.

Crouch down here, and look among the wall cabinets for a beam of light coming out, and open it to find a new tunnel leading out.

This room is short and ends in a blank wall – but there must be more to the wine cellar than things appear. Crouch down again and look to the right of the dead end for a candle-lit crawlspace where a bloody brick is jutting out of the wall. Press it in, and the secret door will be revealed, taking you up and out of the dungeon by way of a ladder into the castle proper.

Be sure to take a look at a note on the left just past the door for a diary of a servant whose time at the castle probably didn’t end on the best of terms.

How to Escape the Castle

After you pass through the remaining cellars and up the ladder dripping down blood from a dead crow, you’ll find a hole in the wall leading to an ornate and stately room.

Inspect the place at your leisure, and note the odd looking Necklace on the small table in the middle of the room, why not take it?

Leaving the beautiful room behind, head into a hallway leading down to a door backed by two statues – but it’s locked. Instead, you’ll want to turn your attention to another hall leading to a slightly ajar door – one that a very large figure passes by as you get close…

However, moving through the door you’ll find no one around, and a large two-story foyer room with several balconies you can view the room below from. There’s even a trail of blood leading to the far door on the bottom floor.

As you move around the upper floor, take note of the creepy door with an even creepier face on it – a face that’s missing an eye. You can examine it, but you’re lacking the item to complete its visage.

There’s not much else of note on the upper floor, so take the stairs down to the room below. What appears to be the front door is predictably locked, as is another nearby door. Move across the room and be sure to check out the fireplace full of burning clothes, and a note on a far table about “candidates”. Then, follow the blood trail into a new room.

This small dining room offers the cruelest of glimpses of the outside, but you still need to find a way out. The far door needs a specific key, so for now, look around and inspect the room. There’s plenty of bottles of “Regina Rosie” wine, and in the far side of the table near the fireplace you can spot a peculiar red-tinted goblet. Angle the goblet while inspecting it to look inside, and you’ll find a Maroon Eye Ring.

Inspect this Maroon Eye Ring in your inventory to look directly at the eye, and examine it to detach it and claim the Maroon Eye – just the sort of thing a certain creepy door face is missing on the floor above.

Leaving the dining room, you may just catch a glimpse of a shadowy figure moving up the stairs – right towards the door you need to go into, of course.

By the time you climb the stairs, the figure will be gone, and you can insert the Maroon Eye into the face to unlock the creepy door into a new room.

You’ll find yourself in a well-lit wine room, so start searching for anything you can use. In the far side of the room, you can check a table space for an excerpt on the wine-making done at this strange castle.

Look to the right of the note for some cabinets near the floor, and open them to find the Courtyard Key. It’s time to get out of here….

As you begin to descend the stairs, a sinister voice will start echoing – someone has been watching you. It won’t be long before a swam of bugs float down between you and the door to freedom and a woman materializes to attack you. She’ll take a chunk out of your neck, but you aren’t dead yet! Run past her into the dining room before she can finish the job, or you’ll have to replay the castle section!

Run through the dining room and quickly use the Courtyard Key on the far door to make your bid for freedom – that is until you meet the Lady Dimitrescu. This will mark the end for you – and for the Maiden Demo. Congratulations!
