How to Use the Wirebug

Watch the video below for a quick introduction on how to use the Wirebug.

ZL is the basic “Wirebug Button” – the button you’ll press to activate the Wirebug in most cases. If you’re using a Light Bow Gun, Heavy Bow Gun, or Bow, however, you’ll need to press R while your weapon is active instead.

Pay attention to the two Wirebug symbols on the bottom of your screen – aka the Wirebug Gauge. Most Wirebug moves will consume one of these. Some Silkbind Attacks will consume two. They recover with time, and you can expand to a third gauge by picking up a wild Endemic Life Wirebug.

While in past Monster Hunter games there was “mounting” damage, in Monster Hunter Rise, there is Wirebug damage. This is noted by damage numbers that are highlighted in light blue Both Silkbind attacks and attacks performed after using a Wiredash deal Wirebug damage. This is important, because once enough Wirebug damage builds against a monster, it will enter a mountable state and let you engage in powerful Wyvern Riding!

Wirebug Controls

Controls for the Wirebug differ slightly depending on if you have your weapon sheathed or not. Here is a list of controls for the Wirebug.

Silkbind (for Heavy Bow Gun, Light Bow Gun, or Bow) R + X or A Same as above – but these ranged weapons use the ZL button to aim, so you need to use the alternative R to perform the Silkbind Attacks. (Consumes Wirebug Gauge)
