Sony’s latest PS5 beta update will include new accessibility and audio options (including Dolby Atmos HDMI device support), social features, UI enhancements, and support for larger-capacity M.2 SSDs.
PS5 SSD expansion was previously limited to 4TB, but with this new update, users will be able to increase the storage space on their console even further to a maximum of 8TB.
While this update is still in the beta stage, Sony has also stated it will be rolling out worldwide to PlayStation 5 consoles before the end of the year. PlayStation users can also be selected to participate in the beta by Sony, so keep an eye on your emails for potential invitations.
If you are selected, just a reminder that you’ll still need an M.2 SSD that meets the minimum requirements (5,500 MB/s or faster) alongside a compatible heatsink. Also keep in mind there isn’t such a wide selection of 8TB M.2 SSDs just yet, and the drives that are available currently cost up to $1000.
For the time being, this isn’t the most economically sound way of expanding your PS5 storage, as 1TB SSDs cost around $60-$80, 2TB $100-$140, and we’ve even seen some 4TB SSDs drop to $200 over the recent Amazon Prime Day sale.
But, if you desperately want to invest right away, we’ve left a few of the current options available just below. Otherwise, keep in mind that there is a good chance prices on these could drop dramatically over the next 3-12 months. Plus, there are plenty of other great PS5 SSD deals to choose from right now as well.
