Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Is ‘in the Early Stages of Development’ for PS4 and Xbox One

By | August 1, 2023

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is coming to even more consoles. But we’re not talking about the Nintendo Switch, or some unannounced next-gen thing. Instead, Respawn is working on dedicated versions for last-gen systems, the Xbox One and PS4.

Announced today during EA’s earnings call, the publisher revealed that Respawn is “in the early stages of development” to bring Jedi: Survivor to PS4 and Xbox One.

Of course, it’s not abandoning the current-gen, either. “Additional performance improvements for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S remain a top priority at Respawn and the team will share more information as soon as the next update is ready,” the publisher said in a statement.

While many games are still developed with both generations in mind, more and more AAA games in particular are opting to stick with current-gen as adoption rates on PS5 and Xbox Series consoles rise. However, the huge attach rate for the PS4 in particular makes it difficult for most games to fully skip.

Since before launch, fans have believed that Jedi: Survivor would be fully current-gen, despite its predecessor Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order launching cross-gen, so this news may be a welcome surprise for Star Wars fans who haven’t purchased the latest consoles yet. Hey, maybe this means we’ll get Jedi: Survivor on Nintendo consoles too if the rumored next-gen Switch arrives as expected.

We gave Star Wars Jedi: Survivor a 9/10 at launch, saying that despite some launch performance issues, it was a “sequel that does virtually everything better than the original – which was already an exceptional Star Wars game.”
