James Storm nearly got arrested over a wrestling angle.
On Insight with Chris Van Vliet, the former TNA World Champion revealed that police actually showed up at his house following the infamous 2015 TNA storyline where he pushed Mickie James in front of a train. The angle was so over-the-top that some people—apparently including the cops—thought it was real.
“A lot of people don’t know it, I actually had cops come to my house to make sure, they thought it was legit,” Storm said. “My brother, who was a detective at the time, he called me. He goes, ‘Hey, man, did you kill somebody on TV?’ I was like, ‘Bro, it’s wrestling.’”
“He had that guy come to my door and ring the doorbell and ask me about all this stuff, and my brother’s sitting in a car just laughing his butt off,” Storm added. “So I had to bring the cop in and put the episode on and show him—it’s part of a wrestling angle.”
Storm said he tried to tone the segment down but was overruled. His original pitch was to use a flashback to show what would happen if Mickie didn’t agree with him. That got shot down.
“Me and Mickie and Nick—all three of us tried to tell John, ‘This is not a good idea, to murder somebody on TV.’ I came up with a plan of having a flash—like this is what would happen if she wouldn’t agree with me. Like I would push her off and she would die, you know. But they didn’t like that idea. And I was like, ‘Alright.’”
Storm said the whole ordeal made him realize just how real wrestling can feel to some people—even when it’s completely scripted.
“When they came to my house, I was like, ‘Somebody really believes that this is going on.’
James Storm might not have killed anyone, but he did learn one thing—wrestling angles can get way too real, way too fast.
