Matt Cardona, who was Zack Ryder in WWE, didn’t get to do everything he wanted before he was released in 2020. Since then, he has changed his style and become a major star in independent wrestling. In fact, he has now made a bold claim about possibly coming back to WWE for the Royal Rumble event this year.
While speaking on The Ariel Helwani Show, Matt Cardona talked about the possibility of returning to WWE, saying he feels he’s earned it. He claimed that if his music played at the Royal Rumble, whether he’s Matt Cardona or Zack Ryder, the crowd would go crazy, social media would blow up, and he’d sell a lot of merchandise.
Although he hasn’t been offered anything yet, he said there has been friendly communication. Cardona shared that he doesn’t worry about whether WWE will call him back but always stays ready. Cardona stated that he has worked hard to reinvent himself over the past five years and thinks he’s made a big impact. He would love to return if the situation was right.
“I think I’ve earned the opportunity to go back. I don’t feel it’s being cocky to say that if my music hit at the Royal Rumble, whether I’m Matt Cardona or Zack Ryder, the place would explode, the roof would go off the place, social media would explode, I’d move merch. I know that. I haven’t been offered anything. I do not know, there’s been communication, very cordial, but there’s been no offer. I can’t live my life like ‘Oh my god, are they going to call me back?’ But if they do, it’s a catchphrase, but it’s the way I live my life—I’m always ready. I busted my ass for 5 years to reinvent myself, I truly believe that I have changed the game. I would love to go back if the circumstances were right.”
The Royal Rumble Premium Live Event is set for February 1, 2025, at Lucas Oil Stadium and Chelsea Green made it clear she would love to see Matt Cardona back in WWE. Therefore, we will have to wait and see whether The Indy God will make his triumphant return to WWE this year.
