Mr. Iguana has been the talk of the town ever since his epic performance at the WWE x AAA Worlds Collide event. However, he recently made comments about skipping NXT and going straight to the main roster and now it appears he has backstage heat because of those comments.
According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there was immediate backstage heat on Mr. Iguana for his comments about skipping NXT and going straight to the WWE main roster. In addition to that, the original interview video was taken down and later re-uploaded with those specific parts edited out.
This comes after Mr. Iguana spoke to Linea Directa TV, where he claimed that WWE told him he would skip NXT and go straight to the main roster because of strong fan interest and high merchandise sales.
Iguana also mentioned taking photos with Shawn Michaels at the Performance Center and being praised for having the top-selling shirt and fast-selling action figures and trading cards.
“I’m there effectively. Like literally I was in the Performance Center yesterday and they told me, you’re not going through NXT – you’re heading straight to the main roster. I was literally taking pictures with Shawn Michaels and they told me they need you here because your shirt is the top seller in WWE, and you’re also the fastest-rising star when it comes to action figures and trading cards. Being in WWE is the dream of every child and I will have all the time in the world for my city because thanks to them and thanks to being culichi, I would not be where I am today”.
We have previously reported that WWE has major interest in featuring Mr. Iguana on weekly programming. However, it’s not known whether him getting backstage heat for his comments will end up changing those plans. Regardless, we’ll have to see what WWE will do with Mr. Iguana, as his merchandise sales have definitely helped him become an instant draw already.
