Odyssey Jones Says He Could Have Worked Smarter To Prevent Injury

By | April 27, 2022

Odyssey Jones made an impact upon his arrival on NXT 2.0. Jones made his in-ring debut in July 2021. He reached the finals of the Men’s Breakout Tournament but ultimately lost to Carmelo Hayes.

Unfortunately, Jones suffered a ruptured patellar tendon during a 205 Live dark match that was taped on January 11. On TV, Jones was attacked by Harland and Joe Gacy to put him out of action for surgery.

Jones, who played for the Syracuse Orange football team as an offensive guard during his college days, recently sat down with Wrestling The Rap Game to talk about his injury and recovery.

“I went for an up and over and went up, but didn’t go over. Went up and straight down. I was being…I could have worked smarter. I didn’t work smart enough. That’s my learning curve.

“God willing, if I get another opportunity to get back out there and do it again, I know for a fact that I’ll do it better. If that opportunity comes, I’m hoping. I’m excited for the return, but I try not to think about it too much.

“It’s the light at the end of the tunnel and a little bit out of reach. I’d rather be where my ass is and focus on things. I’m already walking, braced up, no crutch. Six weeks post-op, seven weeks from the injury,”

WWE had big plans for Jones prior to his injury. The big man was regularly featured on NXT TV. Hopefully, he gets to showcase his potential when he makes his return on the yellow brand.
