The WWE Universe obviously remembers Santino Marella’s hilarious Santina Marella character, where Santino dressed up and pretended to be his sister. It’s been many years since we’ve seen the Santina character on television, and Marella has now confirmed the future of the character.
While speaking to Chris Van Vliet, Santino Marella talked about playing the Santina Marella character. He said it was only supposed to last one night, but it ended up going for about three months because the right people found it funny. Even though it was short, he thought it had a lot of memorable moments.
Marella also said he gained a lot of respect for what women go through with makeup, like how long it takes and how uncomfortable it can be with things like fake eyelashes and heavy makeup that burns your face.
“Santina was funny because it was only like three months, but there was so many memorable moments crammed into three months. It was supposed to be one night, but again, it tickled the funny bone of the right person, and it ended up lasting for three months. But I tell you what, I got a lot of respect for the makeup process that girls go through, it’s like an hour. The fake lashes are hard. It’s no joke, your face is burning from makeup and stuff. Yeah, they go through a lot.”
When asked if Santina might return for a future Women’s Royal Rumble, Santino said it’s probably not going to happen if he can help it. He remembered WWE calling him in 2020 to possibly appear as both Santino and Santina, and he wasn’t very excited about bringing Santina back.
Marella explained that the outfit was uncomfortable, and the whole thing felt a little embarrassing. Even though he gave it his best at the time, he’s more than happy to leave the Santina character in the past.
“Well, not if I have my way. They called me in 2020 to do the Rumble and it was like, ‘He might be Santino and Santina,’ and I’m like, ‘Uhh… okay, you don’t really want Santina.’
It’s the outfit, and you know, it’s a little bit embarrassing too. It’s just something I comfortably put behind me. When I got there, I did Santina, so of course, with what I’m given, I’ll do the best I can. But yeah, I’m just comfortable putting that to bed.”
Many fans were happy to see the Santina Marella character return during the 2020 Women’s Royal Rumble match, even though female Superstars were actually upset about it. Regardless, Santino has made it very clear he just doesn’t want to bring back the Santina Marella character and fans have to accept that now.
