WWE history has been full of great moments and everyone has their own favorite. The Rock came up with a very definitive answer to a question about which match was the most important ever.
WWE on Fox tweeted out a graphic asking what was the most important match in WWE history. Dwayne Johnson had an answer all lined up, and he was not a part of it at all. In fact, nobody from The Rock’s famous Samoan Dynasty family was in the match. He picked the match that you can find embedded above between Hulk Hogan and the Iron Sheik.
Johnson explained why Hulk Hogan and The Iron Sheik’s 1984 barnburner in MSG was so important. He called it a “seminal match with massive historic implications.” Hulkamania was birthed after that and there was also a legend of a bounty to break Hulk Hogan’s legs in the process
Great pro wrestling question!
Hulk Hogan vs Iron Sheik. NYC. 1984.
Madison Square Garden.
Seminal match with massive historic implications – and a legitimate bounty thrown in the mix.
The Iron Sheik saw this tweet from The Rock, and he fired off a trademark all-caps reply: “ROCKY BUBBA YOU SAID IT PERFECT. YOU ARE THE INTELLIGENT MAN. I MAKE THE HULKAMANIA THE HULKAMANIA.” Then Iron Sheik got back to tweeting about how much he hates Hulk Hogan.
As of this writing, Hulk Hogan has not responded to The Rock’s tweet. He also had quite a historic match with Dwayne Johnson that might be on some fans’ list.
