Will Ospreay is scheduled to take the winner of night one’s Singo Takagi vs Kazuchka Okada match in the main event of night two of this year’s NJPW Wrestle Kingdom at the Tokyo Dome. With the emergence of the Omicron variant of the COVID-19 virus, Japan has enacted strict travel restrictions.
That means it may be questionable for Ospreay to return to the country. Unless, that is, he maintains a permanent residence there. If so, he would be able to enter as an allowed non-resident foreign national. According to the US Embassy in Japan, the only thing stopping him in that case would be a quarantine.
“On November 29, 2021, the Government of Japan announced strengthened quarantine measures in response to the emergence of the Omicron variant of COVID-19. Effective November 30, 2021 at 00:00, entry of new, non-resident foreign nationals (to include students on educational travel) will be suspended.”
That means that if Ospreay does not maintain an official residence in Japan, he needed to have arrived by today at midnight in order to be allowed entry. Given the fact that he is advertising himself to be there, it is likely that either one or the other is the case.
The first night of NJPW’s annual super show takes place on the traditional January 4 date. Night two will occur on the 5th. A third night has been added for the Yokohama Arena.
Will Ospreay is a native of Essex, England. He’s been with New Japan since 2016. It’s reasonable to believe that he will be able to make it to the country for the show, so fans can put their minds at ease.
