Zelina Vega has been part of the WWE family for several years now but she’s had to deal with a lot of haters throughout her career. That’s precisely why Vega has now made it clear she couldn’t care less about people who criticize her, especially about her height
While speaking to Ring the Belle, Zelina Vega stated that people often take her way too seriously online. When someone says they hate her, she wants people to know she’s actually very chill.
Vega explained that people online will often say things like they hate her or mock her appearance, like calling her small or making comments about a Puerto Rican flag tattoo or dragon in a pool but she usually just finds it kind of funny and brushes it off.
Whenever drama pops up and people talk trash, her reaction is always the same: say it to her face. Vega challenges them to come up to her during a signing and say it directly, knowing they never actually will.
“No, I think—see, but I’m actually glad that we’re doing this because I feel like people take me way too seriously online. Like when they’re just like, ‘God, I hate her.’ And I’m like, ‘No, I’m really just chill. I swear.’
Right. Like I swear I don’t—people will be like, ‘Oh my God, like you know, I hate them and they’re so this and like, oh my God, she’s so small with a Puerto Rican flag dragon on the pool,’ blah, blah, blah. And I’m like, I think you guys are funny, but whatever.
Every time something comes up like that where people are like talking s*** or whatever, I’m like, ‘Say it to my face. Come up to me during a freaking signing and say that s*** to my face. Bet you won’t.’”
Vega then revealed that one girl once approached her and immediately apologized, saying she had only been trolling. Zelina Vega described how people who claim to hate her online often end up waiting around at the parking area after shows just to ask for a picture. One time, she recognized a girl from online and called her out. The girl admitted she had talked trash but insisted it was just for fun and apologized again.
Vega said depending on who it is and what was said, she’ll sometimes remember specific comments and confront people playfully. She might say something like, “Oh, but I’m whack, right?” or bring up a specific insult like someone calling her wig a helmet.
“One person did. Yes. But she apologized straight away. So she literally was like, ‘I was just trolling,’ and I was like, ‘Mhm.’ Because what happens is they’re always just like, ‘We hate her,’ and then, you know, they’re waiting all by the—you know, when we go down to the parking area or whatever, and they’re standing there, they’re like, ‘Oh my God, can we just get a picture? Oh my God.’
And it’s just like, ‘Okay.’ And then I saw one. I was like, ‘This one looks familiar though.’
And she was like, ‘Yeah.’ Oh, cuz I’ll look. If you’re over here talking hella s***, like I will. It depends on who it is or what they say, but I’ll look. Sometimes I like to pop myself and if they say something, then if I see them in person, I’ll just be like, ‘Oh, but I’m whack, right?’ Or like, ‘What was that s*** about my hair? The helmet—helmet wig, right? That was you, right?’”
The girl in that situation tried to backtrack, admitting she said a little thing but was just messing around. She said she thought Zelina and Sasha Banks really hated each other, but after finding out that wasn’t true, she realized it didn’t matter. Zelina said she and Sasha didn’t care, so she didn’t either and they ended up taking a photo together anyway.
“You probably gagged, dude. She was just like, ‘Okay, I did say that one little thing, but like I was just playing and I was just trolling around, so like I’m so sorry. Like, can we take a picture? Like I just—I thought that you and Sasha like really hate each other and then like she told me that you guys didn’t and then I was like it’s okay.’ I don’t really care. She doesn’t really care. Okay, we’ll take the picture.”
Right now, Vega continues to get a lot of support from fans and she’s having a blast as the Women’s United States Champion, so it’s very clear that haters don’t faze her and that’s not going to change anytime soon.
