Zelina Vega was released from WWE in November of last year, but she recently returned. Her desire to ink a new deal with WWE was apparently heavily influenced on being closer to her husband, then-WWE Superstar Aleister Black. Sadly, he was released prior to her return to action.
Vega re-signed with WWE and returned during SmackDown on July 2nd. Her real life husband, now-AEW star Malakai Black, revealed during his appearance on Talk is Jericho that the couple being close and working together was the driving force for Vega to sign a new contract.
Black revealed during his interview with Chris Jericho that one of the main reasons Vega chose to re-sign with WWE rested on him still being under contract during her negotiations. She re-signed eight months after her controversial release, and then they fired her husband.
“When (the release) happened, Johnny Ace (John Laurinaitis) called me and even he was confused. My wife was crying because she knew. She was about to come back and one of the main reasons she wanted to come back was because I was there, which was more or less the driving force, other than the promises they made her,”
As previously reported, Vega was backstage for the July 28 episode of AEW Dynamite to support her husband. Black is now a member of the AEW roster after his WWE release, and he seems much happier now.
