Paul Heyman Says CM Punk Needs To Keep Driving Himself

By | January 28, 2022

Paul Heyman closely worked with CM Punk back in the day. CM Punk left WWE after his infamous pipe bomb promo, and and Heyman kept up cutting promos for Brock Lesnar.

CM Punk and Paul Heyman are both are different places after many years. CM Punk is now an AEW superstar, while Paul Heyman still continues to work with WWE, even though he had left once in the middle.

Paul Heyman recently appeared on The Masked Man Show, and talked about CM Punk. Return to pro wrestling. Suggesting that CM Punk is still in his honeymoon phase, Heyman said that he’s interested to see his work after year from now.

I think it’s still very fresh for him. What happens a year from now? How’s he going to feel? How will the audience look at him and accept him in a year? If he can continue to drive himself, to being a progressive, compelling, riveting character on the cutting edge that presents himself in a different manner than anyone else can present, then he’s going to be a fascinating character to watch.

Heyman said that it’s important for CM Punk to really drive himself towards the top. He said that if he doesn’t do that, he would be someone who returned but did not progress because he was too busy being fascinated by the nostalgia the fans had.

If he doesn’t (continue to drive himself), then he’s going to be someone that came back, rode a wave of nostalgia but didn’t progress into the future when he as a rebel was always looking forward in the business and never trying to live off what the business had already accomplished or what he had already accomplished in the business, So the fascinating thing for me to watch is his mindset is his vision for that character, for that persona, for himself as a performer a year from now. We’re still in the honeymoon period.

CM Punk still remains an undefeated face in AEW. He’s been having a lot of back and forth with MJF, which might reach its conclusion on the next week’s AEW Dynamite. The two titans will collide, which might result in the first loss faced by CM Punk in AEW.
