Following a successful night one of WrestleMania 39, night two on April 2 is looking to top it. This time, the main event pits two of WWE’s top stars together for the ultimate prize.

WrestleMania 39 is inside Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium and will air on Peacock and the WWE Network.

The main event of the second night of WrestleMania will be Roman Reigns defending the Undisputed WWE Universal Title against Cody Rhodes, the men’s Royal Rumble winner. Reigns has been Universal Champion for over 900 days and the WWE Champion for over 300. “The Tribal Chief” has beaten everyone in his path thanks to The Bloodline in his corner.

Rhodes, son of “The American Dream” Dusty Rhodes, is looking to beat a product of NXT under the late Dusty’s teachings. Leaving WWE and returning after forming AEW, Rhodes is ready to finish his journey and finally put WWE world title gold around his waist.

2023 WWE WrestleMania 39 Night 2 results, highlights

Hello everyone and welcome to The Sporting News’ live coverage of night two of WrestleMania 39! With night one resulting in several great moments, will night two also deliver?

NFL star George Kittle is previewing the WrestleMania card. With involvement from the likes of Bad Bunny last night, could Kittle show up in the ring tonight?

Jimmie Allen is singing America the Beautiful. And we are ready to go!

Snoop Dogg and The Miz are back to host WrestleMania.

Brock Lesnar topples Goliath, beats Omos

Brock Lesnar vs. Omos started the show, meaning Lesnar will have another early night. The size difference between the two was huge. Omos lifted Lesnar up with ease and suplexed him. He powerslammed Lesnar a la Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant. Lesnar turned Omos into a star with this performance.

In pain, Lesnar was bearhugged and chokeslammed. Lesnar recovered with multiple suplexes. He tried for an F-5 but his back hurt him. He tried it again and connected the win.

That was a quick match that was there for Lesnar to pull off a cool move on Omos. Now he can go home and sleep. It was what it was. Omos looked like a star for a brief moment, but didn’t do much to show his growth in the ring.

MMA Takeover: Ronda Rousey, Shayna Baszler win Women’s WrestleMania Showcase match

The women’s WrestleMania tag team showcase match was next. The men’s match from last night was fun, so this one had potential. The participants are Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez, Natalya and Shotzi, Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler, and Chelsea Green and Sonya Deville. Ronda and Shayna were wearing combat Gi’s.

Liv and Sonya start things off. Raquel attempted a powerbomb, but her power was limited. Several of the women then team up on Shayna, powerbombing her with Ronda out of the ring. Shotzi ran wild, landing crossbodies to the inside and outside of the ring. Chelsea was afraid of Raquel and jumped out the ring to the other participants. Raquel then threw Liv to the outside via a powerbomb.

Raquel was taken out of the match by Sonya. Double team move to Deville by Natalya and Shotzi but only for two. Natalya put Chelsea and Sonya together for a double-Sharpshooter, but Liv broke it up. Shotzi and Liv exchanged shots, and then former UFC fighters Ronda and Shayna bullied everyone. Armbar by Ronda and Shotzi tapped.

The women gave it their all in this match. While short, it showcased all their skills. Ronda and Shayna as future tag team champions makes sense in today’s landscape. The women’s division outside of the major players needs some direction.

Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal winner Bobby Lashley came out, said hi, and left. He was supposed to face Bray Wyatt but plans fell through. Nice payday for him.

GUNTHER def. Sheamus and Drew McIntyre in a FIGHT for the ages

GUNTHER vs. Sheamus vs. Drew McIntyre for the Intercontinental Title is up next, aka your potential Match of the Night. A great champion, GUNTHER has helped bring respect back to the IC Title. Good luck trying to keep up with this one.

GUNTHER tried to shake hands but to no avail. He got taken out, and Sheamus and McIntyre started walloping one another with punches. Sheamus was chopped hard, and the two spend several minutes bullying one another. GUNTHER came back in and chopped both men down to the floor. Sheamus’ chest already turned bright red as GUNTHER chopped him on his back. He continued his assault as the chops could have been heard from the upper deck of SoFi Stadium. Boston Crab submission by GUNTHER, but McIntyre stopped him.

McIntyre and GUNTHER exchange shots, from chops to headbutts. Sheamus back in. He and McIntyre are fighting for the right to face GUNTHER. GUNTHER got double-teamed with chops and the Ten Beats of the Bodhran. Now McIntyre was hit with over 20 Bodhran shots. Going for the Celtic Cross, GUNTHER  suplexed Sheamus instead. Clothesline by GUNTHER but only for two. Flying elbow by McIntyre followed by a neckbreaker, and then a suplex from Sheamus to GUNTHER. Future Shock DDT to GUNTHER, and as McIntyre went for a Claymore Kick, GUNTHER hit the powerbomb.

GUNTHER went up top, and Sheamus stopped him. Sheamus landed White Noise from the top rope. He then landed the Celtic Cross but only for two. Cloverleaf onto GUNTHER by Sheamus, and he had him in the middle of the ring. McInytre had a sleeper on Sheamus. Knee by Sheamus to both men, and the crowd is loving this match. Going for the Brogue Kick, he landed on GUNTHER but McIntyre stopped the pin. The friends faced off and beat one another down.

McIntyre back in the ring and landed a top rope moonsault dive off to the outside. Brogue Kick to McIntyre but only for two. Claymore by McIntyre to Sheamus but only for two. They exchange blows in the middle of the ring, and Sheamus landed the Brogue. He tried to get the pin, but GUNTHER landed on top of them out of nowhere with a splash. Powerbomb to Sheamus on top of McIntyre, then he landed a powerbomb to McIntyre for the win.

What an instant classic. Michael Cole was right, that was a fight. All three men looked great in that match. GUNTHER continues his run as a great champion. Can’t get any better than that match, a Match of the Year contender.

Bianca Belair the strongEST slays Asuka to retain the RAW Women’s Title

Following that match: Bianca Belair defending the RAW Women’s Title against Asuka. Asuka is a fan favorite, while Belair is a dominant champion who has managed to be a great ambassador for WWE.

Belair started the match with several dropkicks, trying to halt Asuka from having any sort of advantage. Going for a suplex, and Asuka stopped it. Asuka with a sliding knee and a few offensive moves to have an edge. Spinebuster by Belair as Asuka attempted a top rope move. Asuka caught her with a submission as Belair went with a flip. Asuka Lock is short-lived. On the outside, Asuka tried for an armbar. Belair lifted her up and landed a powerbomb to the outside.

Spear attempt by Belair, and Asuka moved. She landed an Ankle Lock submission to Belair but she lifted Asuka up and landed a backdrop. Another Ankle Lock attempt, and Belair got out of it, but got hit with a dropkick. Asuka kicked her multiple times and one dropped Belair out to the apron. Belair caught a kick, but Asuka dropkicked her through the post. The champion lifted Asuka from outside the ring into the center of it to a standing ovation.

In the middle of the ring, they trade blows and rollups. Asuka landed a head kick but only for two. Going for the Asuka Lock, Belair landed a blockbuster. Moounsault off the ropes by Belair as the crowd is 50/50. High kick by Asuka but Belair landed a spear. Top rope moonsault attempt by Asuka, but Belair countered, but Asuka held onto her hair and slammed her down with a Codebreaker. Asuka tried a hip attack, but Belair landed a Glam Slam onto the ropes. Belair blocked a mist attempt, and landed and a KOD attempt was missed. Armbar by Asuka but Belair got out of it. With her strength, she landed the KOD for the win.

What a match! Belair has now been champion for a full year, taking down the mighty Asuka in the process. She has raw power that can’t be topped. Both these women gave it their all. A standing ovation by the crowd, much deserved.
