Tarik Muharemovic likely felt that he had no choice.
Switzerland was in. The Bosnia and Herzegovina defender was trying to catch up.
In the end, he slid and didn’t quite get the ball.
The tackle landed on the attacker’s ankle, and the referee quickly pulled out a straight red card.
Bosnia was down to 10 men with about 10 minutes to play and a 1-0 deficit.

Why did Bosnia get a red card to go down to 10 men?
The red card came for denial of an obvious goal scoring opportunity.
Muharemovic used his tackle to stop a Switzerland open look on goal.
It’s about as straightforward a red card as a referee can get.

It’ll mean Muharemovic is suspended for the final group stage game, which isn’t ideal for Bosnia.
In the moment, though, there wasn’t much else that could be done to try and keep the deficit at just one goal.
