For the second time in the last four years, both the ALCS and NLCS will end in a Game 7. The Rangers mashed their way to the World Series with a Game 7 win over the Astros on Monday night, and their opponent will be decided Tuesday in Philadelphia.
Few would have expected the series to reach a Game 7 when the Phillies coasted to a 2-0 series lead over the Diamondbacks last week. Don’t tell that to anyone in the Arizona clubhouse, as Torey Lovullo’s players have believed in themselves every step of the way despite sneaking into the postseason with 84 wins.
The Diamondbacks won with their backs against the wall in Game 6, getting to Aaron Nola early and pitching their way to a comfortable 5-1 victory. Will that momentum carry into the franchise’s biggest game in more than two decades?

Game 7 will see a rematch of the series’ best pitching duel, with Diamondbacks rookie Brandon Pfaadt facing Phillies starter Ranger Suarez. Both Pfaadt and Suarez have been revelations in this postseason, and Pfaadt already has experience pitching in a potential clincher after he helped Arizona close out the Dodgers in the NLDS.
The Phillies have a chance to return to the World Series for the second consecutive year, while the Diamondbacks can reach the Fall Classic for the first time since 2001. The winner will face the Rangers in Game 1 at Globe Life Field on Friday.

3:45 p.m. — Every Game 7 is an all-hands-on-deck situation, and the Diamondbacks plan to have as many arms as possible ready behind rookie starter Brandon Pfaadt. That includes ace Zac Gallen, who will be available out of the bullpen, according to Torey Lovullo. Gallen started Game 1 and Game 5 (taking the loss in both); he threw 93 pitches Saturday.
