By | December 9, 2023

There will be more at stake than just the WBC super lightweight title when Devin Haney takes on Regis Prograis at the Chase Center in San Francisco on December 9. Also on the line will be a position on the pound-for-pound ratings and legacy.

Haney, who enters as challenger, is the former undisputed lightweight champion. A smooth technician blessed with rapier speed and quick feet, the 25-year-old is rated No. 6 on The Sporting News pound-for-pound list and climbing.

Prograis, 34, is now in his second reign as a super lightweight titleholder. The New Orleans-born pressure fighter has been at world level for over five years, but despite posting impressive wins over Kiryl Relikh and Jose Zepeda, he feels his skills have been overlooked.

If Haney wins, then he will close out a banner year which also includes a close points victory over Vasiliy Lomachenko in May. However, if Prograis pulls off the upset, then this will be the final affirmation of Rougarou’s quality as a champion.

The Sporting News will cover the entire card and provide round-by-round updates on the main event below.
