Two nationally ranked Texas high school softball teams face off on Tuesday before starting postseason play later this week.
Katy travels to Mont Belvieu to take on Barbers Hill in the regular season finale for both squads. The Lady Tigers are ranked No. 3 in the latest edition of The Sporting News Top 25 softball rankings, while Barbers Hill comes in at No. 14.
The only loss suffered by the Lady Tigers all season came to Barbers Hill, as the Eagles took a 2-0 win on March 1. Since then, Katy (31-1) has won 13 straight games, which included a 16-2 win against Mayde Creek on April 17 that wrapped up a perfect run to the 19-6A district championship.
In that win, Oklahoma State commit Montgomery Henderson had three hits and drove in two runs, Oklahoma commit Emma Kate Smith had two hits with three runs scored and an RBI and Maddie Smith hit her eighth home run on the season.
Katy has scored 318 runs this season, averaging 10.3 runs per game.
Barbers Hill (27-2) comes in having won 18 straight games. The Eagles also finished undefeated in their district, going 14-0 in 19-5A after a 6-3 win against Nederland on April 15, as pitcher Macie Bryant struck out 10 batters while Taylor Lozano went 2-for-2 with two RBIs.
On the season, the Eagles have averaged 9.9 runs per game, outscoring their opponents, 286-27.
Katy will play a best-of-three UIL 6A Division I bi-district playoff series against Alief Elsik starting on Thursday. Barbers Hill will take on LaPorte in its 5A Division I bi-district playoff later this week.
