Arkansas 5-star recruit just won his third National Player of the Year award

By | April 10, 2026

Jordan Smith Jr. has turned heads during his time at Paul VI Catholic (Fairfax, VA), and is preparing for the next step in his career. The East’s leading scorer in the McDonald’s All-American Game was named The Sporting News Player of the Year on Friday.

The 6-foot-2 combo guard averaged 19.2 points, 7.1 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 2.1 steals, and 1 block per game during the recent EYBL season, proving he’s one of the most impactful players in the nation. Smith has found consistency on both ends of the floor, which will be a strength for John Calipari and Arkansas starting next season.

Few guards in the current class have developed better ball skills and can take over on the defensive side. Calipari is known for developing guards who are NBA ready, and Smith is no exception. His intangibles put him at the top of that conversation and will likely be a one-and-done prospect in the SEC.

Smith is currently the top combo guard in the 2026 recruiting class, according to 247Sports. He’s also the No. 2 prospect in the nation behind Tyran Stokes, who’s projected to land at Kansas with Bill Self once again pulling down the top recruit.

As it stands now, Arkansas has the No. 4 overall class with Smith and fellow five-star JJ Andrews at the top, along with four-star Abdou Toure. The trio of blue-chip talents are all ranked in the top 30.
