Even if the home runs hadn’t made any kind of baseball history, they were exceptional.
Philadelphia Phillies slugger Kyle Schwarber pulled two absolutely crushed homers way out of the ballpark during Thursday’s doubleheader against the San Francisco Giants.
The first soared high and far, right down the line, into the upper deck.
The second was to right-center, so it had more room to fly before landing, eventually traveling 446 feet before it decided to rest.
And then in the big picture, these home runs made some cool history, too.
The first piece is that Schwarber has actually hit more home runs in his first 1,321 MLB games than Babe Ruth.
The Great Bambino had 348 homers in that time. Schwarber is at 350.

The second aspect is that Schwarber’s combined stats for the day hadn’t been done by Lou Gehrig in 1935.
It wasn’t just the two homers — Schwarber had a humongous output on Thursday:

The Phillies won both games on walk-off endings, neither of which was provided by Schwarber. But without his earlier home runs, those wouldn’t have been possible.
It can end up feeling like just another day at the office for Schwarber. But clearly, he’s one of the most special power hitters that MLB has to offer.
