The Golden State Warriors are making adjustments to their coaching staff after missing the postseason.
According to ESPN’s Anthony Slater, the Warriors are cutting ties with a 68-year-old NBA champion coach who served two stints with the franchise.
“Despite the return of longtime head coach Steve Kerr, the Golden State Warriors have changes coming to their coaching staff,” Slater reported Thursday. “The top two assistants, Terry Stotts and Jerry Stackhouse, are departing the franchise, league sources told ESPN on Thursday.”
“Their contracts expired after this past season. Stotts just finished his second year as Kerr’s lead assistant and offensive coordinator.”
“Stotts informed Kerr late in the regular season that he didn’t intend to return and told ESPN he is leaving the Warriors on good terms and remains open to NBA head coaching opportunities.”
Stotts joined the Warriors for the first time in 2024 following brief stints with the Albany Patroons assistant), Fort Wayne Fury (assistant), Seattle SuperSonics (assistant), Milwaukee Bucks (assistant), and Atlanta Hawks (head coach).
Stotts only lasted one season with the Dubs before returning to Milwaukee for two seasons (as head coach), spending four campaigns with the Dallas Mavericks (winning a championship as an assistant), assuming head coaching responsibilities with the Portland Trail Blazers for 9 years, and then pivoting back to the Bucks and Warriors.
Although things didn’t work out for Stotts in the Bay, he’ll likely land another NBA gig if he chooses to continue coaching.
