12 best Easter eggs in Chargers schedule release video, from Mike Vrabel-Dianna Russini dig to trolling Puka Nacua

Schedule release videos have quickly become an art form in the NFL, but the Los Angeles Chargers reminded everyone again why they are the kings of it.

The Chargers again pulled no punches in their Halo-themed announcement video, taking predictable shots at the Mike Vrabel-Dianna Russini saga but also making some veiled references that require viewers to pay close attention.

Winning schedule release night in May isn’t the same as winning games in January, when the Chargers have struggled, but their video on Thursday earned them some props again across social media.

Here’s a look at the best Easter eggs from the Chargers’ release video, from a dig at Vrabel to trolling Puka Nacua and C.J. Stroud.

Mike Vrabel-Dianna Russini saga

You just knew the Chargers weren’t going to let the opportunity go by without making some kind of reference to the apparent affair involving Patriots coach Mike Vrabel and reporter Dianna Russini. With New England on the schedule in Week 12, the Chargers took advantage. 

A notification reading, “NYPost sent you a message” pops up during the Patriots’ segment, referring to the outlet that broke the story. Moments earlier, a sign reads, “Next photo dump 1 mile.”

Vrabel and Russini both went unnamed in the video, but the message is clear and the Chargers still had their fun.

49ers’ electrical substation theory

The Chargers’ 49ers segment was all about the electrical substation theory, which claims that the presence of a massive electrical substation next to San Francisco’s practice facility is the root of the team’s numerous soft tissue injuries. The theory doesn’t have any merit behind it, but it was enough for 49ers GM John Lynch to hire a scientist to look into it. 

The objective in the video, which the character fails, is simply, “survive one practice.” At the start of the video, the Chargers’ Week 15 matchup with the 49ers is listed as “soft tissue graveyard.”

Puka Nacua livestream 

Rams WR Puka Nacua has gotten himself into trouble with the Rams in more ways than one, particularly when he made an antisemitic gesture on a live stream with Adin Ross. The Chargers poked fun at him with a livestream by a character wearing Nacua’s No. 12.

The stream’s live chat features a shot at LeBron James, who comments “I called Ty Simpson’s first round,” and it references Nacua’s unsuccessful attempt to get actress Sydney Sweeney’s attention with Sweeney commenting, “how do you feel about skydiving???” 

C.J. Stroud coaching up Caleb Williams

The Chargers weren’t too subtle with their shot at Texans QB C.J. Stroud, showing two characters meeting at midfield and playing Stroud’s now-infamous pep talk in which he gave rookie Caleb Williams advice after a prime-time meeting and told the Bears quarterback he would be a great player in the league.

Stroud himself was barely a year into his own NFL career, and most would take Williams over Stroud in a heartbeat today, so the clip hasn’t aged well by any means.

Chiefs’ bizarre sourdough tweet 

In what might be the best actual Easter egg in the video, the very end of the Chargers’ video features a small QR code captioned “media misfire” that leads to the Chiefs‘ confusing and poorly photoshopped tweet “presenting our 2026 opponents as sourdough.” 

Otherwise, the Chargers mostly took it easy on the Chiefs by making obvious references to Donna Kelce’s viral (but modest) home renovations. 

Patriots’ ‘cupcake’ schedule

The Vrabel situation wasn’t the only way the Chargers took a shot at the Patriots. L.A.’s Week 12 matchup with New England is listed as “cupcake circuit” at the start of the video, and the Halo objective during the Patriots’ segment of the video is “conquer the cupcakes” as the Patriots are shown speeding through the regular season and playoffs before faceplanting in the Super Bowl.

Of course, one of New England’s playoff wins came against the Chargers. The team was able to laugh at itself, too, as a pop up reading, “Nothing to see here. Press X to skip this checkpoint” shows as the Patriots speed past the wild-card round.

Achievement unlocked: wide right

The Chargers took another shot at the Ravens with a reference to Tyler Loop’s season-ending missed field goal against the Steelers. “Achievement unlocked: wide right,” a pop-up reads after the character goes up toward a basketball hoop and misses to the right. 

Dolphins wave the white flag

The Chargers referenced the Dolphins‘ cuts of Tyreek Hill and “HawkTua,” also noting Miami’s record for the largest dead cap hit in a season, but the most subtle shot may be the large, waving white flag” at the start of Miami’s portion of the video.

Many believe the Dolphins are looking to tank after their new regime dumped so much of the team’s core, and the Chargers were happy to jump on board. Now, just don’t lose to the team you called out for punting on the season.

Raiders’ prison

The Chargers’ Halo character walks up to a sign that says “Raider Nation Meet and Greet,” at which point a door opens and reveals a prison in a clear reference to Raiders fans’ reputation for violence, whether fair or unfair. The Raiders have also seen some of their players end up in legal trouble in recent years, including Henry Ruggs III.

Other Raiders references include a friend request from “KirkCuzzo” and a surveillance camera labeled “BradyVision.”

Cam Newton’s Keon Coleman rant

The Bills segment of the Chargers’ schedule release video is one long shot at WR Keon Coleman, with Cam Newton’s rant in which he says the wide receiver is “playing like a bum” is played over a character walking on oversized cookies. Coleman expressed his love for cookies when he arrived in Buffalo, but Newton mocked it in his rant when the receiver was benched last season.

‘Pass the physical’

When it came time for the Chargers to reveal their matchup with the Ravens, their character’s objective was simple: “Pass the physical.” The message references Baltimore’s decision to pull out of an agreed upon trade for Raiders pass-rusher Maxx Crosby, and Las Vegas’ terse message announcing that the trade was off is also shown.

Stefon Diggs-Cardi B relationship

The relationship between former Patriots WR Stefon Diggs and rapper Cardi B is referenced by the Chargers between shots at Vrabel and New England’s schedule. 

“okurrr_cardi has left the game” is quickly followed by “DaddyDiggs6 has left the game” after Diggs was released by the Patriots earlier this offseason.
