Spain vs. Saudi Arabia live score, result, highlights as Lamine Yamal scores in 2026 World Cup Group H match

By | June 21, 2026

After suffering a disappointing start to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Spain hope to reverse their fortunes against 2030 hosts Saudi Arabia in the second matchday of Group H play.

La Roja struggled to a 0-0 draw with minnows Cape Verde in their opening match, logging 27 shots but failing to get past viral sensation Vozinha to find the back of the net.

With Saudi Arabia playing to a 1-1 draw with Uruguay in their opening game, it has left the Group H standings completely deadlocked at one point a-piece.

The Sporting News is following the match between the Spain and Saudi Arabia live, providing minute-by-minute commentary, analysis, and highlights from the group-stage game in Atlanta.

Spain vs. Saudi Arabia live updates, highlights from 2026 World Cup

23rd min: GOAL! SPAIN!!!

12:24 p.m. ET: MIKEL OYARZABAL WITH TWO GOALS IN TWO MINUTES!!!!! SPAIN ARE RUNNING RIOT!!!

The European giants are just first to every single loose ball, and this time Oyarzabal heads the ball into the net as it’s pinged around the penalty area and kept alive by Dani Olmo! Spain is putting their opening-round disappointment to bed, but this is simultaneously a disaster for Saudi Arabia!

21st min: GOAL! SPAIN!!!

12:22 p.m. ET: MIKEL OYARZABAL HAS A SECOND FOR SPAIN! Off a corner, there’s a messy scrum as Saudi Arabia can’t get the ball clear from their own box, and after being kept alive from Aymeric Laporte, Oyarzabal is able to react quickly and tap the ball into the net before a defender can pounce!

Watch in USA:

13th min: Chance, Spain!

12:14 p.m. ET: Mohamed Al Owais has to come out and make a very key stop as Lamine Yamal feeds a great diagonal ball to block Mikel Oyarzabal from scoring a second Spain goal in quick succession, and then Pedri blasts his follow-up shot from the top of the penalty area into Row Z.

10th min: GOAL! SPAIN!!!

12:12 p.m. ET: LAMINE YAMAL HAS HIS FIRST CAREER WORLD CUP GOAL!

It had to be him, as he meets a diagonal cross from Mikel Oyarzabal at the far post for a tap-in! The feed from Oyarzabal is sensational, as he had the cutback to Rodri wide open but instead threaded the needle through an inch-tight window to the far post for the finish!

Kickoff

12 p.m. ET: The match is under way in Atlanta! Mercedes-Benz Stadium looks like it’s absolutely rocking!

Prematch

15 mins to kickoff (11:45 a.m. ET): There is a mini Lamine Yamal look-alike who has gone viral as part of Spain’s fan group!

30 mins to kickoff (11:30 a.m. ET): Incredibly, Spain have won just three World Cup games since their 2010 title. They’ve beaten Australia, Iran, and Costa Rica in that span, while failing to beat eight other teams in that same time. It’s a terrible record, and one that needs to reverse soon if they are to avoid blowing another FIFA tournament.

1 hour to kickoff (11 a.m. ET): Lamine Yamal makes his first World Cup start today. Spain federation (RFEF) president Rafael Louzan said on DAZN of his return to full fitness: “Lamine is tremendously motivated to play, and he has that energy, that joy which will be very good for us. And today is a game we must win.”

He came off the bench against Cape Verde and played the final 19 minutes but could not lift his team to victory.

1 hour 30 mins to kick (10:30 a.m. ET): Lineups are in! For Spain, Lamine Yamal starts, but there’s also three other interesting changes. Pedro Porro comes into the XI at right-back to replace Marcos Llorente, while Dani Olmo is brought into the lineup to replace Fabian Ruiz. Nico Williams is not yet ready to start, so Alex Baena takes the spot on the left wing opposite Lamine.

For Saudi Arabia, Mohamed Kanno is withdrawn from the XI and replaced by Nasser Al Dawsari of Al Hilal.

2 hours to kickoff (10 a.m. ET): Mercedes-Benz Stadium, one of the best venues in the country, is ready to welcome fans ahead of today’s match!

3 hours to kickoff (9 a.m. ET): The Spain fans are expressing their love for Lamine Yamal on a hazy morning in Atlanta!

4 hours to kickoff (8 a.m. ET): After Spain drew with Cape Verde in their opening match, there is very little wiggle room for La Roja remaining in the group stage. If they win today, they are guaranteed a place in the knockout stage, although the job is not yet done to win the group.

However, if they fail to secure victory today, they would be in a very complicated place. A draw would at least give them a boost going into the final match, but they would still need some kind of a result against Uruguay, where as a shocking defeat would put them in a critical position needing to beat Uruguay just to qualify for the knockout stage.

5 hours to kickoff (7 a.m. ET): Spain’s opening-round draw with Cape Verde led to a significant number of memes on social media, with striker Ferran Torres the butt of many of those jokes. With Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams likely back, it’s believed that Torres will drop back to the bench, but he could still be important to this side if they need a goal in the final 30 minutes of matches, so he will want to get going again soon.
