Celtics-Bucks trade pitch sees Boston break bank to acquire generational $175 million superstar

By | June 20, 2026

The Boston Celtics and Milwaukee Bucks could pull off arguably the biggest trade of the offseason if both sides reach an agreement on a deal.

The Celtics would clearly be looking for an elite win-now contributor, while the Bucks would be more interested in landing draft capital that could give them hope for the future.

CBS Sports’ Jasmyn Wimbish recently orchestrated a monumental trade idea that would see the Celtics break the bank to acquire a generational 6-foot-11 superstar forward.

“If the Bucks and Celtics do a trade, it would have to include more than just Jaylen Brown (for Giannis Antetokounmpo), per The Athletic,” Wimbish wrote Friday. “The Celtics would prefer to do a 1-to-1 swap; however, Milwaukee values draft picks.”

“Boston could offer up to three first-round picks in the deal, or the Bucks could look to reroute Brown elsewhere to obtain the draft assets they seek.”

Wimbish’s trade pitch would certainly be an ideal scenario for the Celtics, as it would be fairly straightforward and wouldn’t require another team to get involved to make a deal work. However, it’ll hinge on whether Boston wants to move on from Brown, a former NBA Finals MVP and elite No. 1 scorer option in 2025-26, after 10 seasons.

On Monday, The Boston Globe’s Gary Washburn reported that the Celtics are still unsure if trading Brown is the right way to go, which is a recipe for disaster if the franchise truly views Antetokounmpo as a top trade target.

On Saturday, NBA reporter Evan Sidery informed the public that the Bucks and Heat are ‘making significant progress toward an Antetokounmpo trade,’ which could cause Boston to be on the outside looking in when it’s all said and done.

Essentially, it doesn’t appear that the Celtics’ chances of acquiring Antetokounmpo are as high as they once were.
