In a recent post to his blog, author Rick Riordan confirmed that casting for the series has officially entered the early stages. The author stressed that this is just a preliminary search and that there’s still a long way to go before anything is officially finished. Riordan’s Percy Jackson & the Olympians book series initially was adapted into two films, but will now be making its way to the streaming world as part of a Disney+ series.
The casting call can be seen below:
Seeking:
[PERCY JACKSON] Playing 12, male. A smart, compassionate kid, with a sharp sense of humor. He’s always seen himself as an outsider, in no small part because of how the world sees his ADHD and dyslexia. He’s no wallflower though. He’s impulsive and rambunctious, and is quick to anger when things seem unfair to him. Sarcasm is just another service he offers, but beneath his cynicism is an affectionate son and loyal friend who just wants to do right by those he cares about. If only he could find a place where he fits in.

Riordan doesn’t share much information regarding the project, but he did note that the actor portraying Jackson will be someone who can “play 12,” and that no specific ethnicity is on the casting call. Instead, Riordan said the team is looking for the person who can best embody the character, and that they will follow Disney’s company policy, which looks to have a diverse, inclusive cast.
