Tony Khan Says AEW Has Outperformed His Expectations

AEW is still gaining momentum as they continue to catch up with WWE’s 40-year head start. Few would have guessed that AEW would be such a success at this point, even Tony Khan.

While speaking to Sports Illustrated, Tony Khan admitted that there were goals for AEW when they first opened their doors. At this point in the company’s history, just two years after the debut episode of Dynamite, they have more than exceeded his expectations. If you factor in the star power and viewership, AEW has shattered even TK’s high expectations.

“I certainly had aspirations for AEW to hit certain heights, but we’re further than I’ve ever dreamed. We’ve signed Bryan Danielson, CM Punk, Adam Cole and Sting all in a one-year period. We’ve added legendary names like Christian Cage and Matt Hardy, and stars of the present—Andrade El Idolo and Malakai Black—and the development of the women’s division, especially being joined by Ruby Soho and Thunder Rosa. We’re really proud of where we are after two years, and we’re so grateful that the roster worked so hard through the pandemic.”

AEW has Full Gear as their next pay-per-view event and it will mark some of the company’s newest recruits to make their in-ring pay-per-view debuts for the company. Bryan Daniel and Adam Cole could be joined by even bigger names in the future, because Tony Khan constantly has his eye on the free agent market.

Only time will tell what heights the company will reach in two more years’ time.
