ABLAZE to release coming of age tale “A Sister” by Bastien Vivès

By | December 3, 2020

A story about adolescence and growing up for mature readers coming Spring 2021.

ABLAZE announced today their agreement with Casterman to publish French creator Bastien Vivès’ graphic novel, A Sister, a coming of age story in the tradition of Tillie Walden’s Spinning and Marjane Satrapi’s Persepolis, this Spring.

Antoine, a teenager, is on holiday at the seaside with his parents and his younger brother, Titi. Both spend most of their time drawing, at restaurants and on the beach. But one day Hélène and her mother come to spend a few days with the family and her presence will change Antoine’s life. In A Sister, Bastien Vivès, a master storyteller, conveys the stumbling awakenings of adolescent feelings.  The story is a narrative jewel, created by one of the most important authors of the contemporary international graphic novel scene, who Vanity Fair calls “the new prince of intelligent, sensitive, and funny comics.”

A Sister will also soon be a major motion picture, adapted by French Canadian actress/artist Charlotte Le Bon, who stated in December 2018: “It is with immense joy that I am announcing the film adaptation of A Sister by Bastien Vivès. This will be my first feature film as a director.”

Writer/illustrator Bastien Vivès: “I am delighted that this story is being published on American soil and in English. I hope that the characters and the story can move our dear American readers. Happy reading!”

ABLAZE Co-Founder & VP Creative/Biz Dev Rich Young: “ABLAZE is thrilled to be working with such a hugely talented young creator as Bastien, and in fact will soon be announcing the publication of another title of his, in addition to his deftly crafted A Sister.”

A Sister, a 216-page 6.75” x 10.25” B&W HC for Mature readers, will be on sale Spring 2021. The book is available for preorder now through your favorite indie bookstore, local comics shop, or online book seller.  And will be available through ABLAZE’s digital partners as well upon release.
