Kit Harington Believes Eternals Is ‘the Tip of the Iceberg’ for Black Knight

Kit Harrington is no stranger to the world of huge properties, having already starred in the iconic Game of Thrones series as Jon Snow. Now set to make his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Marvel Studios’ upcoming Eternals, Harington believes his character has a lot more to explore.

Speaking to Total Film for its upcoming issue of the magazine, Harington — who plays Dane Whitman, aka the Black Knight — in Eternals, says that he thinks we’ve hit “the tip of the iceberg” when it comes to exploring Whitman in the film.

“I’ve got no idea whether my character goes on or not,” Harington said. “I had read up on who he could be, or might be. So there’s the possibility for a longer trajectory. And hopefully, I think this is the tip of the iceberg for my character. I hope. But I just don’t know, you know? I’m as in the dark as anyone else. And I try not to live too far ahead in the future with anything. Even when I was in Game of Thrones, even on the sixth season, I presumed the seventh season wasn’t going to happen!”

Harington was also asked about the possibility of a love triangle forming in the film. In the Eternals comics, Dane often has a romantic relationship with Sersi, a member of the Eternals and who will be portrayed in the film by Gemma Chan. However, much of the footage from the film shows Sersi’s character seemingly romantically involved with Richard Madden’s Ikaris. While discussing the relationship, Harington wouldn’t divulge too much but did say that there is a “connection” between the two.

“I think there’s been a few things said about that in the press,” Harington said. “I wouldn’t say that a lot of it is accurate. But he has a connection with Sersi, as does Richard’s character.”

Based on Jack Kirby’s Marvel comics of the same name, Eternals welcomes an exciting new team of superheroes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The epic story, spanning thousands of years, features a group of immortal heroes forced out of the shadows to reunite against mankind’s oldest enemy, The Deviants

The outstanding ensemble cast includes Richard Madden as the all-powerful Ikaris, Gemma Chan as humankind-loving Sersi, Kumail Nanjiani as cosmic-powered Kingo, Lauren Ridloff as the super-fast Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry as the intelligent inventor Phastos, Salma Hayek as the wise and spiritual leader Ajak, Lia McHugh as the eternally young, old-soul Sprite, Don Lee as the powerful Gilgamesh, Barry Keoghan as aloof loner Druig, and Angelina Jolie as the fierce warrior Thena. Kit Harington plays Dane Whitman.
