Disney Inks Licensing Deal With Sony for Spider-Man Streaming & More!

With Sony’s Spider-Man: No Way Home set to release later this year, Disney and Sony will once again come together to bring the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man to the big screen. In a talk with The Hollywood Reporter, Walt Disney Studios marketing president Asad Ayaz spoke about the collaboration between both studios and how it helps everyone.

When asked about how in touch Ayaz is with Sony’s team behind the film, he mentioned that the folks at Sony are handling most of the marketing for the film, but that Marvel’s Kevin Feige and his team are also involved in things.

“Sony is absolutely handling the marketing for Spider-Man. Kevin Feige and his team are closely partnering with the Sony team on those,” Ayaz said. “So there is coordination in that sense. We also make sure we are aware of who is dropping what when. But we are not working together on the campaigns because it’s their film. They are handling it, but there is a level of coordination to make sure that it’s a win-win for everybody.”

Plot details on Spider-Man: No Way Home are still under wraps, but is expected to see the titular wall-crawler team up with Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange to face off against Jamie Foxx’s Electro, though with the ending of Far From Home putting Peter’s secret identity out to the world and the film’s reported ties to the multiverse shenanigans of the Cumberbatch MCU sequel, any number of his rogues’ gallery could show up for a fight.

Alongside Holland and Cumberbatch, the film is confirmed to see the returns of Zendaya (Euphoria) as Peter’s girlfriend and classmate MJ, Jacob Batalon (50 States of Fright) as Peter’s best friend Ned, Marisa Tomei (The King of Staten Island) as Peter’s Aunt May, Tony Revolori (The French Dispatch) as Peter’s classmate rival Eugene “Flash” Thompson and Hannibal Buress (Tag) as Peter’s gym teacher Coach Wilson.
