Chelsea vs. Fulham live score, updates, highlights & lineups from Premier League match

By | February 3, 2023

Fulham could do the double over Chelsea for the first time in the 38 seasons in which the teams have met in the league when the Premier League teams begin the weekend action at Stamford Bridge.

The Cottagers have suffered 1-0 defeats at Newcastle United and at home to Tottenham Hotspur since beating Chelsea 2-1 on January 12.

The visitors recovered from that setback at Craven Cottage by beating Crystal Palace 1-0 in their last home match, then drew 0-0 at Liverpool to extend their wait for a Premier League away win to six games.

The Sporting News is following the match live and providing live score updates and commentary.

120 mins from kickoff: Hello and welcome to The Sporting News’ coverage of Chelsea and Fulham’s return to Premier League action following the FA Cup fourth round!

Chelsea’s chance for near-immediate revenge and Fulham’s opportunity to finally do the double over their hosts during a league season are decent storylines tonight, but all of the attention is likely to be on Enzo Fernandez, who competed his move from Benfica for a Premier League-record £107 million ($129.2m) on Tuesday.

Will the World Cup winner inspire his new side to a better result than their 2-1 defeat at Craven Cottage less than a month ago? We’re about to find out.

Chelsea vs Fulham projected lineups & team news

Chelsea had an incredible January transfer window, but the injury crisis remains at Stamford Bridge, and it will force a number of new players into the lineup quicker than Graham Potter will have wanted.

Joao Felix is on the final game of his three-match suspension picked up for his straight red card in the reverse fixture between these two teams on January 12, while Christian PulisicBen ChilwellN’Golo Kante, and Armando Broja are all certainly out with long-term injuries.

The rest of Chelsea’s injured players, including Raheem Sterling, Reece JamesEdouard MendyWesley Fofana and Denis Zakaria are all close to a return. It’s unclear if any could make their return for this match, but there are rumblings that James or Sterling could feature in some capacity, while the others likely need a little more time. Mateo Kovacic cropped up with a new calf injury and will miss the match, meaning the midfield for Chelsea is extremely thin.

It might be too early for record signing Enzo Fernandez to start, but he could see the field off the bench. It’s possible Hakim Ziyech could be called upon after his loan to PSG fell short after bungled paperwork, although there were hard feelings over that fiasco which still be a bit raw. Jorginho is no longer with the club after completing a Deadline Day move to Arsenal.

Chelsea projected starting lineup (4-2-3-1): Kepa (GK) — Azpilicueta, Silva, Chalobah, Cucurella — Gallagher, Chukwuemeka — Mudryk, Mount, Ziyech — Havertz.

The biggest boost for Fulham comes in the form of their striker Aleksandar Mitrovic. The Serbian frontman has managed a foot injury since the World Cup, and missed the reverse fixture due to a yellow card suspension, but has gone the full 90 minutes in each of their last two league games and will be ready to lead the line again at Stamford Bridge.

New Deadline Day arrivals Sasa Lukic and Cedric are meant to serve squad roles and are unlikely to start in this match. Lukic could eventually supplant starting midfielder Harrison Reed in the long term, but it’s far too soon for him to jump straight in.

There is just one player missing for Fulham, as Neeskens Kebano remains out with an Achilles injury, although it’s not a full tear, meaning he should return somewhat soon.

Fulham projected starting lineup (4-2-3-1): Leno (GK) — Tete, Diop, Ream, Robinson — Palhinha, Reed — Reid, Pereira, Willian — Mitrovic.
