Cristiano Ronaldo made headlines once again off the pitch in recent days, as he had a highly publicised spat with Manchester United that led to the two parties ‘mutually agreeing’ to part ways effective immediately.
Ronaldo confirmed his desire to leave Old Trafford and join a Champions League club after the Red Devils missed out on a top-four spot last season.
Things came to a head last week when Ronaldo went on a controversial interview with UK journalist Piers Morgan, where he slammed multiple aspects of the club, including its culture, manager Erik Ten Haag and players.
Despite the rapid and deteriorating club situation, Ronaldo will still remain Portugal’s most important player at the upcoming World Cup, where he will look to lead them to the final for the first time.

Has Cristiano Ronaldo won the World Cup?
The World Cup is one of the few major titles to evade Ronaldo during his stellar career with his first major trophy with Portugal coming at Euro 2016.
He came closest at his first World Cup in 2006, when Portugal reached the semifinals, losing to France 1-0. They would fall to Germany in the third-place match to finish fourth. Ronaldo scored just one goal in that World Cup run.
They also made the semifinals again in 2012, but Spain earned the coveted finals spot on penalties. Portugal boss Paulo Bento was criticized for leaving Ronaldo fifth in the penalty shootout order, eventually left on the sidelines and not taking a spot-kick as Portugal were ousted 4-2 in the shootout.
In 2010, Ronaldo and Portugal were eliminated in the Round of 16 by Spain, and they suffered the same fate in a 2018 loss to Uruguay.
