ROME, Georgia, Dec. 11 — The SN NEXT No. 8 Gaineville [GA] Red Elephants will take on the Rome [GA] Wolves Thursday night in one of Georgia’s two GHSA Class 5A state semifinal matchups.
Neither team is ranked currently in any national Top 25 lists, and both teams enter the game with identical 11-2 records. They each have a loss to the nation’s current No. 3/SN No. 5 Carrollton [GA] Trojans, but Rome played them much closer, losing a 28-21 decision on August 29. Two weeks later, Gainesville was blown out by the Trojans, 43-21, on September 12.
Rome actually started the season 0-2, losing to the current No. 32/SN No. 23 Creekside [GA] Seminoles which will play for Georgia’s GHSA Class 4A title this week. They’ve rattled off 10 consecutive wins while Gainesville enters the game on a three-game win streak.
The games is set for a 7:30 p.m. EST local kick.
