Joe Buck tells Colin Cowherd he, Troy Aikman used to drink in the booth during football broadcasts

There are few pleasures in this world quite like kicking back, sipping a drink with a buddy and chatting over a football game. Just ask Joe Buck.

The Hall of Fame broadcaster on Monday revealed how he has used the occasional libation to not only keep himself grounded in his work, but also to help establish a smoother working relationship with Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman, with whom he began working in 2001.

Buck revealed the practice in an interview with Colin Cowherd, who prompted the explanation by saying the pairing sounded like college buddies who have “a small glass of bourbon that you sip occasionally during the game.”

Replied Aikman: “We have had that glass of bourbon in the booth — although it’s not bourbon, it’s tequila, splash of Grand Marnier and grapefruit juice.”

Here’s his full explanation.

Leave it to an all-timer such as Buck to have an interesting, engaging answer about drinking in the booth. But, as he mentioned, this is just sports; and as long as it doesn’t affect his work (it hasn’t), there seems to be no harm in the practice, which Buck added he hasn’t performed in some time.

There’s a reason Buck and Aikman have been Fox’s lead announcing tandem every year since 2005.
