Manchester United host Liverpool for the latest instalment in one of English football’s most ferocious rivalries.
The two most decorated clubs in the country meet towards the end of what will be trophyless seasons for each, and results for the teams beneath them in third and fourth mean Champions League qualification is virtually assured.
Indeed, United could be assured of their place in Europe if Bournemouth fail to beat Crystal Palace earlier on Sunday. If the Cherries do win, a draw would suffice.
Victory would give them a first double over Liverpool since Louis van Gaal accomplished the feat in 2015/16, following the 2-1 win at Anfield last October.
More significantly, beating Liverpool at a buoyant Old Trafford would further strengthen Michael Carrick’s case for taking the United job on a long-term basis.
