NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA – Both North DeSoto and Iowa have enjoyed tremendous success on the gridiron in recent years.
Yet, neither the Griffins nor the Yellowjackets have claimed a state title. Friday afternoon in the Caesars Superdome, someone is going to get that long-awaited championship, as North DeSoto takes on Iowa for the Division II Non-Select title as part of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s Prep Classic.

North DeSoto is the top seed in the bracket, and the Griffins have looked the part, going 13-0 and has scored at least 44 points in each contest. That high-octane offense is led by quarterback Luke Delafield, a Northwestern State signee who has thrown for nearly 2,200 yards and 29 touchdowns, and running back Kenny Thomas, a Louisiana Tech signee who has ran for nearly 1,600 yards and 21 scores.
The Griffins reached the title game in 2022 after beating Iowa in the semifinals, but lost to Lutcher.
As for Iowa, this will be the first time the Yellowjackets have appeared at the Prep Classic. They reached the semifinals in 2022 but lost to North DeSoto; then made it back that far last season before falling to Franklinton.
But last week, Iowa (13-0) finally punched its ticket to the Dome with a 28-21 semifinal win against Belle Chasse. The Yellowjackets – the No. 2 seed – are led by tailback J’vien Adams, who has rushed for more than 1,400 yards and 19 TDs, and receiver Jeremiah Bushnell, a Houston commit who has found the end zone 11 times.
