Padres’ new ownership have trade deadline plan for A.J. Preller that fans will love to hear

The San Diego Padres are looking to be one of the top contenders in MLB this season, but they have some major issues with the roster.

Offensively, Manny Machado, Jackson Merrill, Fernando Tatis Jr., and others are struggling. It’s a bad offense, and they need some help. But the starting rotation is also in dire need of help. A.J. Preller will have to work his magic this year.

However, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported on the trade deadline plan from Jose E. Feleciano and Kwanza Jones, the Padres’ new owners. This new plan is some great news for Preller and the Padres faithful, as this year’s deadline could be exciting.

Padres’ new owners have exciting trade deadline plan

“If anything, Preller could become even more dangerous once the Padres’ $3.9 billion sale to Jose E. Feliciano and his wife, Kwanza Jones, is finalized,” Rosenthal writes. “At the past three deadlines, Preller operated with limited payroll flexibility. Some teams hear that Feliciano and Jones, while not yet approved, plan to grant him greater financial leeway.”

This update from Rosenthal would make for a very exciting trade deadline for the Padres. If the new owners are willing to open the checkbooks a bit, Preller can get very creative.

Whether it’s a trade for someone like Tarik Skubal, Sandy Alcantara, or Freddy Peralta, the Padres, with added financial flexibility, could make some fun trades.

Even though the farm system might not be as good as it once was, Preller is very creative and is worth trusting to get the job done when it comes to trades.

With this report, the new ownership’s plan for this year’s deadline might be to give Preller some leeway financially, and Padres fans might see their team have another fun deadline.

After adding Mason Miller, arguably the best closer in baseball, last season at the deadline, some more fun moves might be in store for San Diego this season.
