JUMP TO:
Suddenly staring at a four-point deficit at the top of the La Liga table, Real Madrid have work to do if they wish to remain a threat in the title race as they host Getafe in a Monday league battle.
Madrid were atop the standings just two weeks ago, but a slip against Osasuna last weekend saw them once again concede the top position to Barcelona.
They have been forced to press on without talisman Kylian Mbappe, who is recovering from a sore knee.
Getafe are amongst the crowded relegation battle that sees the difference between 18th and 11th stand at just six points. The Azulones are 14th with 29 points, just five above the bottom three.

HALFTIME: Real Madrid 0-1 Getafe
What a mess for Real Madrid. The hosts have not been able to generate any kind of sustained offensive pressure outside of the one big miss by Vinicius Jr, while Getafe’s goal out of nothing has put the visitors shockingly in front.
Alvaro Arbela will need to make changes, whether personnel-wise or just tactically, to re-invigorate the Real Madrid attack, or else they will slump to defeat and give Barcelona an even bigger cushion at the top of the La Liga table.
39th min: GOAL! GETAFE! THE VISITORS SCORE OUT OF NOTHING! THE BERNABEU HAS BEEN SILENCED BY A SENSATIONAL RIP!
A ball into the penalty area isn’t cleared properly, instead kept alive by Mauro Arambarri, and Martin Satriano strikes it lusciously on the volley, burying it in the top-right corner! Antonio Rudiger could have blocked it, but turned his back and ducked underneath the effort!
The hosts have been under almost no pressure, but suddenly they’re behind for their complacency!

13th min: Chance, Real Madrid! VINICIUS JR. WITH A REMARKABLE MISS! The Brazilian has the entire goal to shoot at as he’s sent clean through on goal, but somehow misses the target! Has the goalkeeper gotten a slight touch with his toe? Either way, that’s a shocking wasted opportunity!

Kickoff: They’re under way at the Bernabeu! Real Madrid have won each of the last 16 times Getafe have come to this venue.
Lineups: The starting XI has been released for both sides. For Real Madrid, an absent Eduardo Camavinga is replaced not by Brahim Diaz but instead by 18-year-old Thiago Pitarch, who just made his senior Real Madrid debut in the road visit to Benfica and now earns his first career start for the club.
Pregame: Real Madrid are into the Champions League Round of 16, but they have looked their own worst enemy in just about every game. Los Blancos will want to be more buttoned up if they are to build consistency and challenge Barcelona for the title.
However, one thing that’s worked for them this season has been the defensive line, which has done well to limit errors and mistakes at the back. Their 21 goals conceded in 25 matches is the lowest in La Liga, two less than Atletico Madrid and five fewer than Barcelona.
