The San Francisco 49ers had one of the most favorable NFL schedules in 2025, turning that into a strong 12-5 record. But because the Seahawks and Rams also took advantage of similar slates, the 49ers settled for a third-place NFC West finish and a wild-card berth.
The 49ers should be happy they were able to battle injuries well and rebound from missing the playoffs at 6-11 in a Super Bowl hangover 2024 season. San Francisco would like to go back to ruling the West; however, this season.
Here’s breaking down their 2026 slate:

49ers strength of schedule
The 49ers still have a pretty favorable schedule, as their 2026 opponents have a combined 2025 winning percentage of .497, giving them the NFL’s 18th most-difficult schedule. Facing the Rams and Seahawks alone twice each in the division contributes to much of that heft. The 49ers also play all of the AFC West, a division that had two playoff teams last season.
Toughest tests: At home, the Broncos and Eagles pose some tricky games outside of the division. Away from San Francisco, the 49ers also face the Chiefs, Chargers and Cowboys. In relation to last year, that’s rather tricky.
Biggest breaks: The 49ers get the Raiders, Vikings and Dolphins as part of their interdivision slate at Levi’s Stadium to help offset the non-Cardinals division foes. They also get a gimme on the road against the Falcons.
49ers record prediction
- Over/under win total: 10.5
Bottom line: The 49ers had to remix their offense with Brock Purdy, changing the receiving corps most. They also had to figure out more defensive answers with coordinator Robert Saleh leaving after his one-season return to take over the Titans.
San Francisco has a strong floor with its running game, should Christian McCaffrey stay healthy again. It also got some needed defensive reinforcements in getting sparked by a new scheme under Raheem Morris. That should be good enough to at least match 2025.
Record prediction: 12-5
