Macklin Celebrini is eligible to sign a contract extension this summer with the San Jose Sharks.
If that happens, it’s almost certainly going to be a doozy.
One chart shows that Celebrini’s market value is more than $21 million, and that there are paths to him getting even more than that on a yearly basis:

Celebrini is a historic player. He just finished the season with the third-most points by a 19-year old in NHL history.
The two players ahead of Celebrini in those all-time ranks? Wayne Gretzky and Sidney Crosby.
Celebrini also already proved himself on the Olympic stage by leading Canada in goals in Milan, so there’s really no doubt that he’s the league’s next absolute superstar.
Some of his Canadian teammates were saying that Celebrini might already be the best player in the world — and if he isn’t, that he would be soon enough.

The good news for the Sharks on all of this is that Celebrini seems open to the idea of signing some kind of deal.
“I want to commit to this team and being here,” Celebrini told reporters. “I love it here.”
Sure, San Jose is going to have to give him a huge payday. But he’s worth it, and he’s the kind of player you keep around for as long as you can.
