Justin Verlander, back with the Detroit Tigers, is hopeful that he’ll be on a team that has an opportunity to win in what looks like his final year in Major League Baseball. While Verlander might not be the same type of arm he once was, he’s still very respected around this league.
There will be a lot of history made throughout the year if he throws the baseball at the level he can, and even if he doesn’t, he’ll probably earn some weird feats, just like the latest one.
According to the Tigers PR, Verlander did something that only Don Sutton has completed in Major League Baseball history.
“Justin Verlander is set to join Don Sutton as the only pitchers in @MLB history to begin their career with at least 380 starts on their original team, followed by at least 175 starts elsewhere, and then return to appear again with their first club.”
While this is one of those weird stats that doesn’t always mean that too much, it also goes to show that Verlander is as reliable and has been throughout his career as nearly any other starter in Major League Baseball.
It’s also very cool to see that he ended up back with the Tigers in this situation, as the move made sense for both sides.
It’ll be even better if the Tigers can get a vintage Verlander on the mound throughout the season.
