By | June 4, 2026

A year ago, Texas won the opening game of the best-of-three Women’s College World Series finals but Texas Tech bounced back in Game 2. The Red Raiders hope history repeats itself in 2026.

The opening game of this year’s WCWS finals saw the Longhorns ride a five-run first inning to a comfortable 7-3 victory, with Teagan Kavan pitching a complete game and Katie Stewart hitting her 31st home run of the season.

NiJaree Canady didn’t start for Tech in the opener but did pitch 1 1/3 innings in relief of Kaitlyn Terry. Now the Red Raiders will rely on their superstar to keep their season alive and force a decisive Game 3.
