Chicago Fire Showrunner Teases Kara Killmer’s Final Season

By | January 17, 2024

Chicago Fire showrunner Andrea Newman has shared some new details about how Kara Killmer’s exit will play out during the 12th season of the NBC procedural. The actress has played paramedic Sylvie Brett since the Season 3 premiere in 2014, replacing Lauren German’s Leslie Shay.

News about Killmer’s exit came out last year, but the specific episode was not revealed at the time. The announcement, of course, disappointed some fans, especially in light of the character’s significance to the program. Season 11 concluded with Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer) proposing to Sylvie Brett, so it has opened more doors about the character’s future in the show.

When will Kara Killmer leave Chicago Fire?

Speaking with TVLine, Newman revealed that Killmer’s exit won’t be happening in earlier episodes of Season 12, teasing that Killmer’s last season will be full of action.

“You got to tune in to find out! But I’ll say that she has a lot of plans in place when we see her in the premiere, and everything does not, of course, go exactly according to her plans as much as she’d like them to,” said Newman.

She continued, “[Kara is] in a good chunk of the season. It’s a rollercoaster for [Brett] this season. She’s got a lot of big action, actually, this year, and she’s making lots of plans that keep having wrenches thrown at them. So she’s readjusting on the fly. But she’s got a lot of great hero stuff this season.”

Killmer has appeared in 193 episodes of Chicago Fire, with recurring roles in other One Chicago spin-offs, including Chicago P.D and Chicago Med.

The synopsis for Chicago Fire Season 12 reads: “In the wake of a fire/extremist threat, Mouch’s life hangs in the balance. Sylvie’s relationship with Dylan came to a close, and a new door opened as Casey proposed to her, all the while as she was looking to adopt an infant girl. Stella makes the decision to leave Chicago in hopes of bringing Kelly back.”
