The series, which is said to be heading to Paramount+, will be a 10-episode order, and has apparently been in the works for a few weeks now. Paramount Television Studios made this the first official scripted series order from the company since President Nicole Clemens added a senior role as President of Paramount+ Original Scripted Series.

The prequel is said to be set four years before the original Grease, with the story set to focus on four fed-up, outcast girls who dare to have fun on their own terms, which in turn sets off a moral panic that sparks and changes Rydell High forever. Of course, the original film did feature these four girls as seniors in high school, with Rizzo, Frenchy, Marty, and Jan acting as members of the Pink Ladies. However, the report notes that the spin-off series will actually feature new characters.

The prequel will be written and executive produced by creator Annabel Oakes (Atypical), with Oakes also serving as showrunner. Marty Bowen will executive produce via Temple Hill, with Erik Feig set to also join on as executive producer via Picturestart.
