The Suicide Squad director James Gunn took to Twitter to confirm that production on the upcoming first season of HBO Max’s newest DC spinoff series Peacemaker has finally been completed after 131 days of filming. Gunn went on to express his gratitude and appreciation to the cast and crew for their hard work on the project, which he first pitched to the streamer less than a year ago. The filming wrap comes less than a month before the highly-anticipated theatrical and HBO Max release of The Suicide Squad, which is set to feature the introduction of John Cena’s titular hero.
Even though a second season still hasn’t been confirmed, the Guardians of the Galaxy director previously revealed that he already has an idea on what he’ll do for the potential second season including the DC characters he would like to include.
And that’s a wrap on Day 131 & Season One of #Peacemaker. Less than a year ago I pitched a vague pitch to @HBOMax – here we are 11 months later with 8 astounding episodes in the can. Cast & crew: I love you all. Thank you for putting your hearts & souls into this project.

Further details about the plot are still being kept under wraps, but it will likely explore the origins of John Cena’s Peacemaker, who is being described as the world’s biggest douchebag. He is a man who believes in peace at any cost — no matter how many people he has to kill to get it.
Joining Cena is Steve Agee as John Economos, Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo, Robert Patrick as Auggie Smith, Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt, Freddie Stroma as Vigilante/Adrian Chase, and Chukwudi Iwuji as Clemson Murn. It will also include Lochlyn Munro, Annie Chang, Christoper Heyerdahl, Elizabeth Faith Ludlow, Rizwan Manji, Nhut Le, Aison Araya, and Lenny Jacobson.

Based on the characters from DC, Peacemaker is written and created by James Gunn, who directed multiple episodes. Executive producers are Gunn, Cena, Peter Safran, and Matt Miller. The 8-episode first season is expected to make its debut in January 2022.
It will be produced by Troll Court Entertainment and The Safran Company in association with Warner Bros. Television. The series will extend the world that Gunn is creating for The Suicide Squad movie, which is scheduled to be released in theaters by Warner Bros. Pictures on August 6, 2021.
