The beloved Black Panther star graduated from Howard in 2000, with a bachelor of arts degree in directing. While in college, he was notably mentored by acclaimed actress Phylicia Rashad, who is currently the dean of the Howard University’s College of Fine Arts which has now been renamed as Chadwick A. Before gaining worldwide recognition for his role as T’Challa/Black Panther in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Boseman first received accolades for his first starring role in 2013’s Jackie Robinson baseball biopic 42. He followed that historic portrayal with two more: As singer James Brown in 2014’s Get on Up and Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall in 2017’s Marshall.

Even after his death, he continues to shine with his critically acclaimed performance as Levee Green in Netflix’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, which earned the actor his first Golden Globe win and solo SAG win, both for Best Actor.
