After the Wednesday Season 2 Part 1 finale left fans shocked with the supposed death of Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday Addams, the showrunners for the Netflix fantasy drama have shed some light on the titular character’s fate. In a recent interview, Miles Millar and Alfred Gough opened up about the climactic ending of Part 1, all the while sharing their views on whether Wednesday will return for the upcoming Season 2 Part 2.
Miles Millar says Wednesday was ‘killed’ because they wanted Season 2 Part 1 to end ‘with a bang’
While speaking with TVLine, the series’ co-creator Miles Millar explained why the team decided to leave Wednesday Addams’ fate in the balance after Tyler, in his Hyde form, threw her out of one of the highest windows in Willow Hill.
As fellow co-creator Alfred Gough acknowledged that Wednesday experienced “a pretty significant fall” in Season 2 Part 1 Episode 4, Millar added to Gough’s words by saying that “if any normal person was thrown out of a window by a monster and landed on that concrete, they’d be a human pancake.”
Despite his analysis, Millar pointed out that Jenna Ortega’s character will most likely survive her fall in Wednesday Season 2. “She is Teflon, and the show is called Wednesday, so I predict that she’ll be back,” the Australian-British producer noted. He then highlighted why they chose such an ending for Part 1 by saying, “We really wanted to end the first four with a bang, and hopefully we didn’t disappoint. It’s a fantastic sequence, and Tim [Burton] directed the hell out of it. Hopefully, it leaves audiences on the edge of their seats wanting to come back for more.”
While speaking about Tyler breaking free and killing Thornhill, before throwing Wednesday out of the window, Gough remarked that “we wanted to make sure that it was an impactful death.”
All questions regarding the fate of Jenna Ortega’s titular character will likely be answered when Wednesday Season 2 Part 2 premieres on Netflix on September 3, 2025.
