Here’s everything you can expect from the Animal Crossing Toy Day Update. This update is available on November and runs on December 31st all day (although certain seasonal items are available starting on the 26th).

New Year’s Event Times

The main New Year’s event takes place all day on December 31st, New Year’s Eve. The festivities start in at 7:00pm, and begin in earnest at 11:30pm. Things wind down at 2:00am, before ending entirely at the 5:00am reset.

Prepare for New Year’s with Food

The main thing you need to do for New Year’s is buy the four traditional New Year’s foods, although this is entirely optional.

Starting on December 26th, Nook Shopping will have four items available in Special Goods, under the Seasonal Tab. These are the Sparkling Cider (or Fizzy Apple Juice in EU regions), Twelve-Grape Dish, Berliner, and New Year’s Noodles. They cost between 1,000 – 1,300 Bells each.

It’s important to note that Resident Services is closed on New Year’s Eve itself, meaning you’ll need to use the Nook Shopping app on your phone to order them. If you don’t have it yet, then the only way to get them is by time travelling to an earlier day.

Get New Year’s Items

Outside of the traditional foods, there are several items you can get on New Year’s itself. Isabelle will give you a Light Stick if you talk to her outside Resident Services, and Tom Nook will sell Party Poppers for 300 Bells a pack, as well as New Year’s Silk Hats for 500 Bells each, which come in four colours.

These are available all day until the 5:00am daily reset.

Attend the New Year Countdown

Of course, the main event is to attend the countdown and sky show at midnight, when you tick over to the new year!

Buy Traditional Items from Nook Shopping

As mentioned above, from the 26th to the 31st of December, you can buy four different traditional New Year’s foods. But from the 1st to 15th of January they’ll be swapped out with seven different traditional New Year’s items!
