Amanda Nunes Tests Positive For COVID-19 — UFC 265 Title Defense Is Off

By | July 29, 2021

Amanda Nunes has tested positive for COVID-19 and now her big fight is not happening. She was set to fight at UFC 265, but she will be unable to make the show.

Nunes was set to fight Julianna Pena and defend the UFC bantamweight title, but the bout has been rescheduled according to MMA Junkie. It is possible that the fight will now take place in December.

UFC Chief Business Officer Hunter Campbell confirmed that this fight is off as he spoke to ESPN. Now the UFC 265 will have one less marquee fight for their upcoming pay-per-view event.

Amanda Nunes’ wife Nina confirmed to MMA Junie that all three members of their household has tested positive for COVID-19, including their infant daughter, Raegan.

Pena has wins over Cat Zingano and Jessica Eye. She was looking to add Nunes and the UFC bantamweight title to her list of accomplishments. That attempt will have to wait. The fight between Pena and Nunes is not cancelled, but it is sadly postponed.

We’re wishing everyone the best in this situation. Hopefully, Nunes will get a clean bill of heal and she can get back to defending her title very soon.
