Matt Hardy Drops CM Punk Tease Before Expected AEW Debut

By | August 19, 2021

CM Punk is on his way to AEW, and all signs point toward The United Center’s big Rampage show this Friday as his debut. Tony Khan said he has the biggest announcement in company history to make. Fans will watch in anticipation and it is very probable that Punk will even keep his Cult of Personality theme song. We’ll have to see if The Second City Savior has anything to do with Matt Hardy in AEW, but the two certainly have history with each other.

On June 24, 2008, Matt Hardy and CM Punk teamed up to face The Miz and John Morrison in a tag team match on WWE’s version of ECW. That match might not be remembered by many fans, but Hardy didn’t forget it at all.

Big Money Matt posted a short animated gif from that match, one of a tandem spot he and Punk pulled off while giving each other high fives. Hardy did not include any caption, but his intention was 100% clear. Obviously, Matt Hardy is very excited about having CM Punk in AEW.

As Ringside News exclusively reported, CM Punk is slated to wrestle 10 to 12 times per year. It is unclear if he will wrestle at All Out yet, but we wouldn’t rule that out at all. Darby Allin and Bryan Danielson currently top the most likely first opponents for Punk in AEW. Whatever he decides to do, Matt Hardy will certainly be watching closely.

We dug up the entire match that Hardy pulled that gif from, and you can check that out below. Keep checking back with Ringside News for constant updates.
